Snowy Scene at Noggarth Top
Scroll down for photos and a description of the snow....
Our Back Garden
Seldom scene and not my favourite place. Taken through the kitchen window at early o'clock.

In the morning I made an attempt to get to Barley, but found both Noggarth Road and the road to Newchurch blocked by snow drifts.
Harpers Lane, Fence
I tried again in the afternoon and failed again. The road to Newchurch seemingly impassable as the cars in front of me were turning around. I parked on Harpers Lane and had to force my way past this lorry which was stuck in a drift. I was intent on walking to Newchurch, but on the way up the road, the driver of a Range Rover Discovery offered me a lift - he thought I was struggling to get home. I took a ride to Barley. We encountered a stranded vehicle and occupants and helped to get them on the move again.

Barley New Road |
Having found my way to Barley, there was a small temptation to head for Pendle Hill, but with the car in Fence and no bus services, I thought better of it. I walked along Barley New Road towards Roughlee.

Directions
Ridge Lane
Looking down (l) and then up (r) Ridge Lane. The character in the second photo is a lady from Whitehough who couldn't get her car out and needed to meet a friend in Fence for an evening event. So packed her best clothes in a rucksac and put best foot forward for the two mile walk over to Fence.
Ridge Lane
Impassable to motor vehicles and not too easy for pedestrains, either. I often use this route to drive to Barley.

Noggarth Top Shop
Usually offering light refreshments to the walkers and it might have been open, but I didn't hang around. At the time, I didn't notice the dog on the wall! Maybe in years to come, we will refer to "2013" in the same way as folk of a certain age keep referring to "1963".

Noggarth Road
The road to/from Fence was open for a certain distance, offering access to some of the homes and farms
~~~~~
The wagon was still stuck on Harpers Lane, but a recovery team was on hand and it would soon be moved.
Walkers: Just Me, walking for an hour and 40 minutes.
Weather: Cold, with light snow and a strong easterly wind.
